Joy's Story

My name is Joy. I grew up in Lagos, with my parents and two siblings. My dad is a petty trader and my mom is a teacher. Growing up wasn't always easy. There were times I feared I wouldn't be able to pay my school fees. Those seasons taught me resilience, humility, and the value of hard work. They also taught me compassion for others who struggle, and to trust God even when things felt uncertain. Watching my parents refuse to give up showed me that perseverance and faith can carry you through anything.

My life changed when I was 13. I attended my first Young Life Club led by Sis. Evangeline John. That day I heard about Christ's love and sacrifice, and I said "yes" to Jesus. Young Life became more than a club — it became home. Through Bible study, prayer, and discipleship, my faith grew and my character was shaped. Today I serve as a Campaigner Leader in Young Life High School ministry. I walk alongside young people, build relationships with them, and point them to Jesus the way my leaders did for me. I also attend Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, where I continue to grow in God's Word.

Now a Developing Global Leader, I will study Microbiology at Bells University of Technology in Ogun State. I chose Microbiology because I'm fascinated by how something so small can impact health and communities. My goal is to use science to help prevent diseases and improve public health. Through DGL, I want to grow in leadership, excel academically, and become a person of integrity and influence.
